in everyone (via workisnotajob)
We never really know who we’ll end up being close to. Lianne and I were talking about first impressions in Starbucks. Funnily enough, we discovered that most of us never imagined that we’d like each other when we all first met. Maybe it’s really like that with everyone. Maybe once or twice you can single out a person who you feel an instant connection to, but most of the time friendships start with horrible first impressions, awkward silences, forced smiles and a couple of eye-rolls.
Then you decide to stick it out, and you realize that a couple of months later, these are the people you’d want to spent the rest of your college life with. There never is a big event that will magically seal your bond. Its actually a series of little things. A shared fork, a bearhug, a really funny joke, clothes-swapping, this is what friendships are made of.
Before college, I used to think common ground is necessary for friendship. But living with 300 girls from all around the Philippines changed that. I can say that none of my close friends are like me at all, which is great because I don’t really think I can take being friends with myself anyway.
